Bids Set To Close For New Jamestown Airport Lights

Bids for a new lighting system for the Jamestown Municipal Airport are set to close Tuesday.

Airport Manager Ronnie Seagraves said Precision Approach Path Indicator or PAPI lights need replacing. The current lighting system, which helps pilots maintain the correct guide path, has been in place since 1992.

Seagraves said the PAPI lights at one end of the runway went out sixteen months ago. After they were repaired, the airport committee discussed and decided it was time to look at replacing them.

Seagraves said the replacement lighting system will take at least ten days to complete. During that time, the airport will be closed.

Seagraves said the bids will be opened on next Monday. If everything goes as planned, Seagraves said the work will begin in later summer or early fall.
