Monterey baseball player Leandro Roberts continues to appreciate every moment on the baseball diamond.
Roberts is primarily a starting pitcher. The junior Roberts plays first base on days he is either not needed or recovering from his outing. Roberts said covering first has been a lot more enjoyable than he thought it would be.
“I think, I mean obviously I enjoy pitching more but if I can help the team out that way, it’s always nice to be able to do something that way.” Roberts said.
Roberts has pitched since his Little League days. Roberts said he pitches in relief as well.
“Usually the bad starts help try to set me up on a track to get going, get better.” Roberts said. “The good ones are always good but you got to keep going on the next one.”
Roberts’ tenure as starter for Monterey includes a win over York in the 2023 district tournament. He started and won the game as a freshman. Roberts said he was thinking of revenge.
“It was a good memory because that’s what sent us to the district championship.” Roberts said.
Leandro Roberts has pitched in two games for Monterey this season. Roberts said he has been nursing an injury which has affected his playing time. Roberts said his rehab is going very well.
“At the end of the day that’s what’s gonna help us win more games if I’m good to play wherever and go wherever.” Roberts said.
