Gainesboro Increase Water Sewer Tap Rates

Gainesboro will increase the rates for water and sewer tap installations.

Town Clerk Lisa Dodson said the rates were $1,000 and are going up to $1,200 for a three-quarter-inch meter. Half-inch meters will increase from $1,400 to $1,600. Mayor Lloyd Williams said the rate increase will help the town’s budget.

“Well I think from the meeting we had the other night that we know money is tight and it’s gonna get a lot tighter,” Williams said. “I mean it’s just an honest fact about it.”

Dodson said the rate increase will match the increasing cost of materials for water and sewer taps. Gainesboro Water Distribution Supervisor John Pigg said the rates include the cost of materials plus 10 percent with an additional $500 labor.

“I figured that would be fair on that,” Pigg said. “I just added that to it along with the updated prices.”

Williams asked if the town installs a lot of taps per year. Dodson said the town does not install many.

“Sometimes we do it just depends,” Dodson said. “Maybe three or four a year maybe. It’s new houses and sprinkler systems.”

The town approved the rate increases during Thursday night’s aldermen meeting.
