York Institute Senior Blade Garrett started playing baseball at the age of three, so he has known the game all his life.
Garrett has since played every year with league ball, travel ball, and middle school ball before joining the York Dragons varsity team. Garrett said his dad would have him practice every day.
“I’m real lucky to have a dad like that, you know, I’m grateful.” Garrett said. “He made the game fun too. He let me play on travel teams, you know, use his money, let me play all this extra stuff and I’m just lucky to have a good dad and a good coach like that.”
Garrett has played shortstop and second base since he started playing baseball. He also pitches for the Dragons.
“I always look forward to the spring like it’s fall and I always look forward to fifth block going over there practicing and playing games with my friends, you know, I’ve made all my life.” Garrett said.
Garrett said his favorite part of practice is going on the field to be a part of his teammates batting.
“It’s real, it’s serious but it’s also laid back and we have a lot of fun.” Garrett said. “We still get a lot of work done before the games and stuff and after the games, that’s my favorite part.”
Garrett said he has pitched since Little League and throws three pitches with confidence.
