The Jackson County Blue Devils set to host their annual Alex Cassetty Tournament.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the tournament. Eleven teams are set to compete in the annual event. Jackson County Baseball Head Coach Alex Bray said his only concern right now is the weather.
“We’re looking forward to weather that cooperates with us, for one.” Bray said. “We’ve got some pretty ugly weather coming in. We’re getting the field as prepared as we can, where the tarp is, we got field conditions and everything ready so we can get some dry spots out there and split the field and get ready to play as many games as we can.”
The forecast in Jackson County currently calls for rain on Saturday. Saturday marks the final day of the tournament. Bray said the tournament is a big community event every year for Jackson County.
“Lots of baseball, beautiful weather if it does cooperate with us this time of the year.” Bray said. “It’ll be a good opportunity to come out and watch some good ball and enjoy the outdoors.”
Jackson County has sold tickets for a fish fry held during the tournament. The fish fry is set for Saturday from 2-4 pm. Bray said he wants to see his team become fearless.
“We’ve been working on trying to be confident at the plate.” Bray said. “We’ve been playing a lot better defense, feeling better as a team but we just got to get our bats clicking, get our offense clicking.”
This year’s tournament will be a wood bat tournament. Last year’s tournament saw Jackson County lose their first game to Livingston Academy. The Blue Devils then tied with Red Boiling Springs.
Jackson County opens the 2025 Alex Cassetty Tournament Thursday against Cumberland County.
