Putnam Schools New Space Renovations Nearly Complete

Putnam County Schools nearing completion of the renovation project of the old Frontier Communications office on Cookeville’s South Franklin Avenue.

Putnam County Schools Deputy Director Tim Martin said the school system started move-in during spring break. Martin said one major step remains.

“We are getting ready to probably put a new roof on the building,” Martin said. “We haven’t bid that yet and I would expect that to be you know, somewhere in the neighborhood of $125,000 to $150,000 to put a new roof on there.

Martin said so far the school system has spent about $230,000 on building improvements. Martin said HVAC units and sprinkler systems have been replaced and the goal is to replace the roof as soon as possible.

“I think it will be done in the next four to five months but I don’t have a complete timeline,” Martin said. “Until we get a bid we won’t know that for sure.”

Martin said the building has also received an access control system, some inside electrical work, replaced doors, and restriped the parking lot.

“Most of the work was done and those offices, most of those people were moving in during Spring Break time,” Martin said. “So we’ve got everybody that’s located over there has fully moved in at this point.”

Martin said said the building will be used for the system’s extended services, such as student services. The new building will free up space at Avery Trace Middle School and several other facilities.
