DeKalb Baseball Looking for Positives in Second Half

The DeKalb Tigers baseball team seeks consistency as the calendar turns to April.

The Tigers have scored 35 runs in their last four games. However, DeKalb has also allowed 31 runs during that stretch. DeKalb Head Coach Tad Webb said he looks to see the team’s mindset improve.

“We’ve had our bumps. We’ve had our, our letdowns and some of our fundamentals have been, have been up and down and that, defensively fundamentals is kind of where we’ve been up and down at times.” Webb said. “We’ll make some great plays and then we’ll have some simple blunders that, it’s the routine stuff that we’ve got to clean up.”

DeKalb concludes their series against Watertown Thursday. Webb said he wants to see his younger guys develop to give the Tigers more depth.

“Our main guys that’s been throwing those Monday, Tuesday games just, you know, continuing to improve their game and work on their craft on their pitching locations, cut down on walks, and being more consistent with that.” Webb said. “And if they cut down on walks, they’re gonna put it in play, our defense is going to have to step up and make more plays.”

Webb said the entire team has taken strides this season.

“I’m not going to single out just one player that has done that because I feel I’ve got, you know, several that have.” Webb said. “And, you know, we’re not where we want to be yet but they’re continuing to work, continuing to push to get better.”

The Tigers’ last game against number one ranked Watertown saw DeKalb score seven runs in a 13-7 defeat.
