York Institute’s basketball team looks to write the wrongs from last season.
The Dragonettes will enter regional tournament play after their championship victory over Smith County. They held Smith to fewer than 20 points in the win, defeating them 54-19. York Head Coach Michael Green said he looks to see his team improve their play.
“We didn’t shoot the ball extremely well against Jackson County and Smith County in the championship so we were a little disappointed about that.” Green said. “Of course, any time you play these teams three or four times, they always chip away and make strides to get the games close and all that.”
York looks to head back to the state semifinals for the second season in a row. They lost by three points to the state champions Gibson County in the state semifinals last season 38-35.
“This is a win or go home game.” Green said. “You better be focused, you better be ready to go for four solid quarters.”
Green said he will need to see his team execute their press for four quarters if they want to advance.
“[Trousdale County] is definitely someone you’re not gonna be able to just walk in and win.” Green said. “We have to make sure we’re ready from the tip for sure.”
York will welcome Trousdale County Friday night at home in the regional quarterfinals. York has won in the regional quarterfinal round every year they have played in that round since the 2004-2005 season.
York currently stands 24-5, winners of their last 14 games.
