DeKalb Commission Holds On Decision For Jail Location

The DeKalb County Commission tabled a decision on a new jail location during Monday night’s commission meeting.

Jail Committee Chairman Larry Green said the committee received some new potential properties last week that could be considered. Green said he wanted the jail committee to further evaluate the new options.

“We will go over each piece of property including the downtown location,” Green said. “We will go over each piece of property, the pros and cons of it and then once we discuss it we may be able to get an informal vote.”

The Commission pivoted toward building a jail following a public referendum on a Justice Center Complex last year. The state is requiring the county to replace its current jail.

The Jail Committee Meeting will take place next Monday, 6pm, at the DeKalb County Courthouse.
