Cookeville Baseball Prepares for April Competition

The Cookeville Cavaliers baseball team finished their March schedule with a sweep over Lebanon.

The Cavaliers defeated Lebanon 8-7 and 11-1. Both games were played in Cookeville. Cookeville Manager Derek Bush said it was good for the team to get back out on the field.

“We finally got some games under our belts. We were kind of short as far as the other teams compared to how many games they play and we kind of got caught up.” Bush said.

Cookeville saw a couple of their games in early March get postponed. They will head into April with a 5-3 record. Bush said each game provides value for his team.

“You get into playoff games where you have multiple games in a short stint and you have to use a lot of arms.” Bush said.

Among the sophomore pitchers used for the Cavaliers this season is Zolton Knight. Knight pitched six innings at Franklin County. He held Franklin to five hits in the Cookeville win.

“For our sophomores to get those innings under their belt going into the postseason is going to be huge for us in the latter part of the year.” Bush said.

Sophomores Jackson Jones and Dawit Inman have also pitched for Cookeville this year. Jones currently sports an earned run average of 2.00. The average stands as the second lowest among Cookeville pitchers.

Cookeville will begin April with a home-and-home series against LaVergne.
