Tennessee Tech women’s golfer Chloe Griffith said coaching has helped her improve her game.
Griffith recently finished in the top 15 in the Chris Banister Golf Classic. Chloe tied alongside her teammate, junior Kaydi Rhodes. Griffith said all the assistant coaches and players have helped her grow.
“I was really struggling with the team dynamic when I first came, so they helped me understand that like we are a team, we are working together, it’s really important to communicate, things like that.” Griffith said. “They’ve helped me on and off the course, been out there with us, working through shots.”
Tennessee Tech will head to Morganton, North Carolina for their next tournament. Griffith said she spends a lot of time off the course with all the players on the team.
“Playing golf growing up was an individual sport, and so you come to college and it’s suddenly a team sport and it’s a completely different dynamic, and I think it really taught how to work with others, teamwork, leadership, things like that, and it’s really great for honestly all of us.” Griffith said. “I think all of us benefit from having each other out there because golf is such a mentally demanding sport.”
Griffith started golfing at the age of seven. She committed to Tennessee Tech during her senior year of high school in California. Griffith said she wanted a different experience in another part of the United States.
“I found Tennessee Tech from a friend who goes to Union and she was like I’d highly recommend this place and so I started talking to coaches and I really fell in love with Tennessee and the school itself.” Griffith said.
Griffith traveled to Tennessee after graduating from Huntington Beach High School. She will complete her sophomore year playing in three more tournaments, including the OVC Tournament in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Griffith hopes for a minimum top three finish.
“Really looking forward to what’s coming up.” Griffith said.
