Spencer Aldermen want to look at options for constructing a maintenance building next to City Hall.
A committee setup last month to address potential options. Aldermen Darrell Nance said the committee is leaning towards a 50-foot by 60-foot post-frame building with three bay doors. Nance said a maintenance building is needed since the city’s utility department merged with the Warren County Utility District.
“It’s for the city hall to put our trucks, our tractors in, and of course our spreader, all that stuff,” Nance said. “Cause since the county has taken over they took our building so we got to have a place for those vehicles.”
Nance said the committee has not made a final decision and some details need to be worked out. Nance said the committee has not gotten too far into the project to know how much the building would cost.
“We’ll get the plans to somebody and they will give us a bid I’m sure,” Nance said. “Some bids, you know, so I have no idea.”
Nance said one of the bay doors would be used for pulling trailers through. Nance said there is still some discussion needed to figure out which way the building needs to face so there is enough room for trailers to pull through.
“If we face it toward Highway 111 we would have about a four-foot field at least a four-foot field down on that end, if we face it towards this building then it would be less field,” Nance said. “If we face it that way or the highway it would be a lot of field to do at the far end so I wouldn’t go that route.”
Nance said he believes the committee could find a way to make the building smaller to create more space for trailers to pull through. Nance said the committee also considered a metal building but due to how the building would need to be a post-frame building would be much stronger against wind. Nance said he is hoping plans are completed and ready for bid within the next two or three months.
