Pickett Baseball Welcomes Seniors As Season Cranks Up

The Pickett County Bobcats recently saw their basketball seniors return to baseball practices.

Pickett County Manager Jamie Cravens said he has used a lot of younger guys to fill in during their absence.

“Watching them get their timing, that’s going to be a process for us. We’ve got some good athletes that can step in and can play good baseball right off the bat.” Cravens said. “But, you know, of course it’s going to take some time to get their timing in.”

Pickett County awaits their first tournament of the season with their full lineup. The Bobcats are set to play in the Wood Bat Tournament hosted by York.

“It was good for our young guys that may not get a lot of playing time later on this year, but a lot of those guys stepped up and made plays for us,” Cravens said. “That was really good.”

Cravens said he has utilized drills for certain areas of hitting, including playing a little small ball.

“We’ve got drills where we do bunts. We’re working on bunt defense and bunt offense.” Cravens said.

The Bobcats basketball team ended their season with a quarterfinal loss in Murfreesboro. The seniors returned to the baseball diamond in their series against Jackson County.
