The Upperman Bees boys basketball team defeated Tullahoma 65-55 Saturday afternoon to win the school’s first boys basketball championship.
Ty Cobb led the team with 33 points. He shot 9-19 from the field. He made all 14 of his free throws. Senior Bronzden Chaffin scored 12 points. He scored 8 of the 12 in the second half. He made all four of his free throws.
Both teams ended the first quarter tied at 10. Only four players combined scored points. Upperman sophomore Ty Cobb scored six of the 10 Upperman points.
Upperman led by as many as four points after the first half. Colton Johnson scored three points midway through the quarter. He was also assessed a technical foul with less than a second to go.
Upperman finished the game shooting 31 of 35 from the line. They trailed for only 18 seconds. They led by as many as 14 points
The win marks the Bees’ first ever state title. The state championship appearance was their first ever appearance in the state title game. Tullahoma also marked their first appearance in the championship.
Upperman finishes the season 31-4. Tullahoma finishes 32-4. The win marks Upperman’s first stat title in their 100 years.
