Clay Baseball Looking to Finish Games This Season

The Clay County Bulldogs look to play a complete seven innings of baseball in every game this season.

Clay finished last season with a 4-16 record. They made it to the District 7A championship before losing to Gordonsville in the final. They made it to the second round of regionals before being eliminated by Jo Byrns 12-2. Clay Manager Devrim Brown said his game has not done as well at finishing in recent games.

“I’m still optimistic that with the basketball boys not here and getting some practices under our belt, that we can get some momentum going.” Brown said.

Clay will welcome three players back into their starting lineup. Those boys return after the basketball season ended last week in the state sectional.

“It definitely was a morale boost and we’re hopeful. We’re definitely hopeful going forward.” Brown said. “We know that it, when it does together, it’s going to be special.”

Nolan Adams returns as one of the three basketball boys.

“These early games have been a nice way to kind of ease him [Nolan Adams] into district play so that he can be our ace on the staff going forward.” Brown said.

Brown said there are some things that the boys need to work on. Brown said he has used Nolan Adams for no more than 30 pitches in a game since his return last week. Another boy to return is Nolan’s older brother Nate Adams, who Brown said has not played baseball since middle school.

Clay began their season 0-3. Their next games will happen Tuesday night in a doubleheader at home against Red Boiling Springs.
