School Leaders Preparing Plans For Doyle Expansion

White County Schools taking steps toward a $2 million expansion at Doyle Elementary School, adding seven classrooms.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger told the School Board Thursday night enrollment has grown steadily at Doyle and the facility simply has run out of space. The expansion would take place on the front of the current building.

“The plan to propose to the board that it would come from our savings, which is very healthy,” Dronebarger said. “So it wouldn’t be anything that we would need to bond or take and increase any taxes to do, but it would meet their needs for quite some time and be able to continue program well into the future at Doyle.”

Dronebarger said the expansion would be relatively simple with no bathrooms added, the only water usage being sprinklers. The biggest decision point would be how to best install HVAC systems into the addition.

Dronebarger said the system would also like to add a walking trail in the front of the school.

“Trying to utilize the existing pavement area that the city technically owns over there,” Dronebarger said. “We’re going to talk to the city of all about that because we’re going to take up a little of the pavement spot to put the classrooms in.”

The School Board will approve the addition in a more formal presentation at a later date.
