Pickett Ends Season in State Quarterfinals, Losing 56-39

The Pickett County Bobcats boys’ basketball team saw the season end Wednesday, falling to Hillcrest in the State Quarterfinals 56-39.

Pickett shot over 60 percent from the field in the first quarter. They trailed by one point. Pickett and Hillcrest led for five separate times at the end of the quarter.

The Bobcats saw the deficit increase at the end of each quarter. They trailed by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter.

The loss marked the largest margin of defeat for Pickett since December 28th.

Senior Jacob Amonett of Pickett led the Bobcats with 13 points. He shot 0-8 from three point range. The Bobcats shot 2-14 overall.

J’Acoby Lewis led Hillcrest with 24 points. He scored 20 of those points in the first half. He made his first eight shots from the field, going on a 7-2 run by himself to start the second quarter.

Pickett’s state quarterfinal marked their second appearance in state in five seasons. They remain without a state championship appearance since winning the championship in the 1995 season.
