York Dragons Looking to Play Their Brand of Baseball

The York Dragons hope to control what only they can control this season on the diamond.

The Dragons’ season ended in the district tournament last year, in a tournament that ended up sending a team to state. York Head Coach Adam Bowden said it will be tough to replace the pitching lost this year.

“We’ve had guys that’s really worked hard in the off-season.” Bowden said. “Coming into the season, we had a little bit of a chip on our shoulder cause a lot of people didn’t get us a whole lot of credit and I said, we got to use that as motivation, but those guys really set the tone for what York baseball really should be like.”

York looks to return to the state tournament for the first time since the 2022 season.

“Really good teams will learn how to win those close games, but we lost those close games.” Bowden said. “There was times that we’d come out and we’d swing the bat real well, and we’d just put the bat on the ball a lot and make good contact.”

All but one of York’s wins last season occurred by ten runs or more.

“It just seems like we had a different mindset, we were just a lot more relaxed.” Bowden said. “I definitely think that they set the tone a lot for those guys that came back this year.”

Of their four games played so far this year, York has already played in two games decided by one run. Those two games stand as their most recent, at home against White County Thursday and at Monterey on Monday. They defeated White County 5-4, then lost to Monterey 3-2 on a game ending balk.

York has started this season 3-1.
