The Van Buren Eaglettes fell in the State Title Game Saturday, losing to Greenfield 49-46.
Van Buren led after the first three quarters and for half of the fourth quarter. Abigail Netherton missed a game tying three pointer in the final seconds. The Eaglettes ended the game giving up a 6-0 run to Greenfield.
Van Buren finished the state championship game with 18 turnovers, including back-to-back turnovers with less than a minute to go. The turnovers led to Greenfield extending their lead to three. They held the ball for 48 of the final 60 seconds.
Netherton finished with 20 points. Cara Mills had her second double-double of the state tournament. She finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The state championship marked Van Buren High School’s first ever appearance in a state championship game. They finish their season 28-7. Greenfield wins their second state championship in program history.
