The Van Buren County Eaglettes will play for the school’s first state title Saturday, defeating Coalfield Friday 54-52.
Van Buren advanced on a game-winning jump shot by Abigail Netherton with 1.3 seconds to go. Netherton finished with 30 of the team’s 54 points. She scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The Eaglettes trailed by as many as nine point during the game. The Eaglettes went on a 12-0 run in a four minute stretch in the fourth quarter to take the lead. The Eaglettes fouled Coalfield on a potential game-tying three with 12 seconds left. Coalfield would hit all three free throws to tie the game.
Coalfield led for the first three quarters of the game.
Van Buren County will play for the Gold Ball at 11 am Saturday morning against Greenfield.
