4 UC Girls Teams Start Run For Gold Ball Wednesday

Last weekend saw Upper Cumberland girls basketball teams send four teams to state tournaments, held at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro. Those teams will play during the week for a chance to advance to semifinal action on Friday.

Van Buren faces Middle College Wednesday morning at 9:30 am. The Eagles defeated the Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes Saturday night, winning 56-51.

They will enter Murfreesboro with their last three losses coming in the regional championship to Copper Basin, and their previous two both against Moore County, whom the Eagles could see in the semifinals. Van Buren looks to advance to their third state semifinal in four seasons. Middle College enters play 25-9.

York will clash with Memphis Business Wednesday night at 8:45 pm. York defeated Pearl Cohn at home in the class two sectional matchup Saturday to qualify for the State Tournament.

York enters the state quarterfinals not having lost since December 30th and not having lost against a team in Tennessee against December 20th. They look to head back to the state semifinals in back-to-back seasons, as well as for the third time in four seasons. Memphis Business enters play 22-6.

White County squares off with Dyersburg Thursday afternoon at 12:45 pm. The Warriorettes enter state having defeated Lenoir City at home in their state sectional game Saturday night, extending their win streak to 11 games.

They travel to Murfreesboro for the first time since the 1997 season in search of their first state championship since 1929. Dyersburg enters play at 27-4.

Cookeville will face Lincoln County Thursday at 5:30 pm. The Lady Cavaliers hung on to defeat Cleveland 57-55 in overtime at home on Saturday.

Cookeville seeks their third trip to the state semifinals in the last four seasons, looking to build off their four game winning streak. Lincoln County enters play at 25-8.
