Putnam Schools Rename Old Park View School

On Thursday, the Putnam County School Board approved a new name for the Pre-K school that will be housed in the Old Park View school.

The school will now be called the Putnam County School System Early Learning Academy. Naming Committee Spokesperson Tyler Asher said the name focuses on the ELA aspects of learning.

“We thought that naming it the Putnam County School System Early Learning Academy was something that encompassed a lot of education,” Asher said. “Especially the ELA part. ELA is such a vital piece for kids at an early age to gain those skills going forward.”

A logo and color palette for the school are still not official, but Asher requested the color scheme be some form of silver, gray, and blue. Asher said that after taking public feedback into heavy consideration, the mascot of the school will be called the Scholars.

“Of course, we had a lot of options to choose from,” Asher said. “We also had some community surveys that went out to the community and they put in an option as well. So we just all started going through them and taking out names and things we didn’t like. Then we kind of just settled on Scholars because we thought that was such a great way to get those early kids knowing that this is what they are going to do and pick and choose moving forward.”

Asher requested that students across the district create a logo for the school. Director of Schools Corby King said student involvement for creating a logo has worked well before.

“We get this to the middle school and high school art classes and digital art classes,” King said. “Get lots of involvement so it will be lots of student opportunities. They enjoy that we have had good success when we have done this in the past.”

Asher said the committee will consider student logo concepts and will likely have a logo picked out within the next two to three months.
