City Terminates Easement Agreement At Willow & I-40

Cookeville City Council Thursday terminated an easement for a water tank and access road at the site of a proposed retail development.

Director Barry Turner showed a photo with the water tank off Willow Avenue and Interstate 40. He said the city took the tank located on the old Norwalk Property out of service in the mid 1980s.

“The developer is wanting to get rid of that easement,” Turner said. “We have no use. Like I say for it. It’s bad location for a tank.”

A developer has started the process for approval of a development on the piece of property, including city and county rebates to pay for infrastructure upgrades. The specs on the development show a Home Depot and Target as the likely retailers, but no official announcement has been made.

In other business, the council approved bids for summer mowing, spread across four contractors and 28 pieces of city property.

The council set a public hearing for several rezoning requests. Council also cancelled its March 20 meeting.
