Winds Produce At Least 20K Without Power In UC

At least 20,000 people are starting the morning without power after powerful winds brought down trees and powerlines Tuesday night.

As of 4am, Upper Cumberland Electric reported just under 7,000 outages regionwide. The outages are dispersed evenly across the area, though northern Putnam County and the Rickman area both showing large numbers of outages.

Volunteer Energy reporting Cumberland County as its hardest hit area with at least 12,000 people without power as of this morning.

Wind gusts around 60mph were common across the Upper Cumberland Tuesday evening.

Part of a roof came off a business on Cookeville’s North Washington Avenue. A tree fell on a Baxter home. Two homes in the Clarkrange area had trees fall across them, according to Emergency Management.

During the height of the storm Tuesday night, fires became an issue in the Fairfield Glade area, sparked by downed power lines.

Emergency officials ask that you watch closely when driving this morning for branches and limbs in the roadway.
