Tech Baseball Using Start of Season to Build Depth

Golden Eagles Baseball Coach Matt Bragga said he wants to maximize his depth chart during the early season action, giving everyone as many innings as possible.

Tech lost to Western Kentucky Monday. Bragga said every season’s goals are based on what each roster has to offer.

“This year is a very deep roster for us.” Bragga said. “We’re playing a lot of guys. We have an idea who our top three to four guys are that we’re going to play every day and then there’s five or six other position that we got some battles going on and we’re trying to give guys opportunities to win those battles and get some experience for our young men as well.”

Bragga said his team has started 15 position players within nine games this season. Bragga said the same battles remain on the mound as well.

“We’re trying to figure out pieces, you have a really good idea going into the year.” Bragga said. “But when you have pretty darn good depth like we do, you want to make sure and get some guys some major opportunities before you get into the conference.”

Jackson Keith returns, as does Jack Brafa, both of whom who Coach Bragga said have gotten off to good starts this season. Bragga said he will look for his hitting to match the offense shown by the Golden Eagles recently. Tennessee Tech led the country in a six year period for most runs scored on average.

“I always look at past history, some of our very best teams, and do we have enough guys that are matching that?” Bragga said. “Here of late we’ve had some ups and downs, so I’d like to see that top end really separate themselves.”

“It all starts with people. Coaching staffs, players, and when you have good people like our team and our coaches and our administration, good things are in our future.”
