Wound Care Center Improving Patient Experience

Cookeville Regional’s new Advanced Wound Care Center opens Monday, allowing for more efficiency and a better patient experience.

Program Director Jason Wyatt said the additional space will be used for additional exam rooms. Wyatt said the extra room will not only allow more patients to be seen but make the overall service more timely.

“Our patient care process includes intake, case management, and discharge,” Wyatt said. “Having extra space will allow us to move through that process easier and more efficiently.”

Wyatt said the new facility also comes with a bulk oxygen system so oxygen can be administered more easily. Wyatt said using oxygen is an important treatment option for patients struggling to heal their wounds.

“It gives them an extra boost,” Wyatt said. “Oxygen is obviously necessary for wound healing and again, we’re just going to be able to provide that in a more seamless manner.”

Wyatt said many of the center’s patients are direct referrals from Cookeville Regional but it is available for anyone that needs its care. Wyatt said the center has been open for the past ten years but a steady increase in patient volume required the center’s expansion.

“Chronic non-healing wounds aren’t an acute situation but we do want to address any problems a patient may be having as quickly as possible,” Wyatt said.
