Smith County Mayor Jeff Mason has been selected to serve as chair of UCDD and UCHRA’s Executive Committees.
Mason served as both committees’ vice-chair under former Jackson County Mayor Randy Heady before Heady passed away in January. Mason said he would entertain a motion to elect anyone to the position of chair but he was chosen without discussion.
“I left this seat blank today and a cup of coffee there for my buddy,” Mason said. “I can’t never be what he was, but I’ll do the best I can. He set a good example.”
Both committees unanimously appointed Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster as vice-chair without further discussion.
