Cookeville Regional Medical Center will open its new Advanced Wound Care Center Monday.
CEO Buffy Key said hospital staff will begin moving into the new space Wednesday. Key said the biggest difference with the new facility will be the extra space allowing the hospital to see more patients and schedule more appointments.
“We’re going to have a larger area for our wound care patients,” Key said. “It’s such a fantastic center for our community, and also by moving into this new place Middle Tennessee Surgical is able to expand out with their new physician as well in their current space.”
Key said it is a great feeling to be arriving at the finish line on the project. Key said the moving process will not have any negative effects on the operations of the wound care center.
“It’s kind of like renovating your kitchen and still living in it and cooking in it,” Key said. “You just kind of work around those obstacles and go from there but we’re not going to miss one patient.”
Key said the hospital has been leasing space for the center from Middle Tennessee Surgical Specialists that will not be necessary after moving into the new space. The hospital officially approved a plan to begin the project in February 2024 with a original completion date of May 1, 2025.
“It’s a good day because it’s good for our patients,” Key said. “We can see more patients probably now. Yeah, it’s just a great, it’s a great feeling.”
