The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats face an elimination game in the District 7AAA tournament.
The Lady Wildcats finished their year as the number four seed after losing to White County at home on senior night Friday night. Livingston now faces Stone Memorial this week where the loser of that game will see their season end. Senior Mallie Carwile of Livingston said she looks forward to the challenge.
“We need to definitely spread the ball out more,” Carwile said. “And our scoring, we can’t rely on just Ellie [Butler] to score, we all need to contribute in our own ways, and we’ve got to play to our strengths.”
Livingston’s last two wins have seen them score exactly 59 points against Stone and DeKalb County. They defeated Stone Memorial in both regular season matchups.
“I Feel like against Sparta we didn’t play to our strengths.” Carwile said. “And that really hurt us, I mean obviously, we didn’t win, so I feel that will be the game changer for us in this game if we play to our strengths like the last time we played Stone Memorial.”
Carwile scored 12 points in their first matchup January 17th. She joined Butler and Chloe Jenkins as players who scored at least ten points or more in the victory.
“It’s gonna take everyone doing their job the whole time they’re out there.” Assistant Coach Marlee Sells said. “Whether they’re out there for two minutes or 32 minutes, at all times, we need everything they’ve got and I think our girls are ready to do that.”
Livingston finished their season 17-10 and 5-5 in the district. They seek their first state appearance since the 2021-22 season, where they lost in the championship to Jackson South Side.
The winner between Livingston and Stone Memorial will face White County on Saturday. All district tournament games will be played at Cumberland County High School.
