Putnam Establishes Budget Committee, Schedule

Budget work set to begin for the Putnam County Commissioners.

Mayor Randy Porter appointed a nine member group of commissioners to begin work April 21. The purpose of that meeting will to be elect officers for the committee and get a first budget presentation from Porter.

“And let me say the other too, (I) always have more people that ask to be on the budget committee than what we have spaces for,” Porter said. “But as you all know, you’re welcome to all the budget committee meetings. They’re all open and I strongly suggest that you come to those as we go through the budget this year.”

The commission also approved a budget calendar outlining the county’s plans to get an annual budget in place by the end of the fiscal year. The calendar said a proposed budget will have to be published no later than July 18 so the full commission can consider it on July 28.

“It’s an estimation only of dates and so forth going forward, but it gets something on the books so we meet the comptroller’s requirements,” Porter said.

The calendar showed March 28 as the deadline for elected officials, department heads, and the road department to submit budget requests. It also noted that non-profit requests are due to the mayor’s office by March 14.

The budget committee includes Commissioners David Andrews, Grover Bennett Jr., Chris Cassetty, Vinnie Faccinto, Dale Moss, Ben Rodgers, Sam Sandlin, Jonathan Williams, and Darren Wilson.
