Clay, Clarkrange Girls Square Off In Semifinals

The postseason for both the Clay County and Clarkrange girls set to begin.

The basketball game Thursday night will determine seeding for the upcoming regional tournaments, which begin later this month. Neither team can be eliminated with a loss, but a win will pose an opportunity at a District 7A Championship next Monday. Clarkrange Head Coach Lamar Rogers said his team is excited and looking forward to the challenge.

“This is what we’ve worked for this summer when we first went to camp,” Rogers said. “Our schedule we’ve had help[s] prepare us for this, we’ve had two Christmas tournaments, played some really strong teams and the tournaments are where the fun is so we’re really excited…”

Clarkrange will enter Thursday night’s game as the three seed. They face off against two seed Clay County, who enters having won seven of their last eight games.

“A little bit of stress goes with it,” Rogers said. “But this is what you work all year for to be able to play good and hopefully keep advancing in the tournaments.”

Clay Head Coach Matt Walker said his team will need to step up on the shooters of Clarkrange if they want to move on.

“You’ve got to give [Katy Hopkins] a lot of attention.” Walker said. “Clarkrange is definitely gonna have a good game plan with [Coach Lamar Rogers,] and I think it’s gonna be an exciting game.”

Clay defeated Clarkrange in both of their match-ups this season.
