Tech Requesting Iris Review Submissions

Tennessee Tech University’s English Department asking for local writers to share their content for Tech’s annual print literary journal called The Iris Review.

Assistant English Professor Erin Hoover said the Iris Review features poetry, fiction, and non-fiction works, art, short stories, essays, photography, one-act plays, and comics. Hoover said The Iris Review is a great opportunity for local writers and artists to have their work published.

“Our base of writers and artists are drawn from talent that’s local to our region,” Hoover said. “So we are happy to spotlight the creativity that’s happening in our community whether you are a fiction writer, whether you write poetry, maybe you take photographs. the Iris Review at Tennessee Tech can be a home for your work.”

Hoover said the English Department will be taking submissions until February 15. Hoover said she encourages everyone to submit something as The Iris Review has been the first opportunity for many artists and writers to be published for the first time.

“You don’t have to be someone with books out or someone who has published even anything,” Hoover said. “We every year publish writers who this is their very first publication and so we are really excited to be that first publication for people. We know there is a lot of creativity out there which is one of the reasons why we wanted to just do as much as we could this year to get word out.”

Hoover said The Iris Review is an assignment that she assigns to publishing students every year. Hoover said students learn how to use Adobe In-Design to put together The Iris Review.

“That’s the industry standard publishing software that students would need to know if they went into publishing jobs,” Hoover said. “So producing a high caliber print magazine using that industry-standard software that is something we have doing for eight years and this is going to be the next version of it.”

Hoover said the university has an editing and publishing certificate that students can complete a course to acquire. Hoover said The Iris Review is one of the core courses that is part of the certificate.

Hoover said those who submit work that gets published will receive a free copy. For those who would like to submit work to be featured in the next edition of The Iris Review please go to theirisreview dot wixsite dot come backslash home.
