A water main line that broke during Monday’s sinkhole incident on East Spring Street restored Monday afternoon.
Water and Sewer Director Barry Turner said he thinks the sinkhole lead to the breakage of the water line. Public Works Director Mary Beth Elrod said it is a “chicken or the egg” situation as to which event came first and caused the other.
The roadway damage caused by the sinkhole will take longer to repair. Since Spring Street is a state route, T-DOT will be responsible for repairs.
The incident happened around 7am Monday night, between Highway 111 and Interstate 40.
