The Town Of Monterey has suspended Police Chief Bill Randolph without pay, after his indictment on seven counts, including theft and misconduct.
Monterey Mayor Alex Garcia said, as of now, he does not have plans to fire Randolph. Garcia said Randolph has not yet shown any intentions to resign.
“He has not,” Garcia said. “I have actually suspended the chief without pay pending the investigation and I have named an interim chief for the time being.”
Garcia said he has named Chris Clayburn as the Interim Police Chief. Garcia said the issue will be further discussed with the Board of Aldermen Monday night.
“I will bring it up as emergency new business and the board will discuss it,” Garcia said. “Then the board can either agree with what I did or we think we should reverse it.”
Randolph indicted after a comptroller investigators determined that Randolph misappropriated an estimated $2,387 and improperly received 36 hours of training credit in 2022. Randolph did not attend a training conference in Gatlinburg, but instead enjoyed a vacation at the town’s expense. He recorded that he attended the conference.
