The developer of the Old Kentucky Road Commons has officially withdrawn the appeal over signage for a potential new Wendy’s location.
The Cookeville Planning Commission denied the additional free-standing pole sign at the shopping development located on East 10th Street and Old Kentucky Road. Developer Wayne Cravens appealed to the Cookeville City Council, the protocol in such a circumstance. Cravens withdrew the appeal, citing the ability to move already-approved signage on the property around to meet the needs.
The Planning Commission approved three signs on the development, including two monument signs and one large sign. The property was rezoned from Single Family Residential to Planned Commercial Development, limiting signage allowed. Cravens has asked for 20-foot sign along Highway 111 to help the restaurant compete with other chains across the highway in Algood.
According to Community Development Director Jon Ward, residents have concerns about the impacts of the lighting from more signage surrounding the shopping center.
City Council limited signage at the shopping center during its original approval process.
