Algood’s Old Walton Road And Sewage Work Nearing Completion

Algood City Administrator Keith Morrison said road and sewage work on Old Walton Road is nearing completion.

During Monday night’s work session, City Council members considered a change order to allow for the purchase of an estimated 920 tons of binder to finish the final 50 feet on the road. A USDA grant would only cover patching the roads.

“The roads were a lot worse than expected,” Morrison said. “USDA wanted to patch them, but there was no way to patch them the roads were so bad.”

The city replaced an aging work station, which was too small for the flow coming in. A work station with a larger pump was installed. The work totaled $144,778.

“All the lines are in, all the pavings done, with the exception of 20 or 30 feet,” Morrison said.

Once the new station is functional, the old station will have to be torn down and two additional pipes will be laid will have to be laid. City Council will consider the change order formally at its Tuesday night meeting.

“We’re close to wrapping it up,” Morrison said. “That’s what most people were worried about.”
