Another Dollar General could be coming to Baxter in the near future.
Codes Official Bob Lane said the company had reached out about the potential to establish another one in the city. He said they had tentatively looked at placing it behind the Huddle House off of Old Gainesboro Road near the interstate.
“They’ve not officially come to us yet with anything yet they’ve just asked a lot of questions,” Lane said. “They wanted to see where the city stood as far as accepting them into the community, were there any problems, so that’s looking very promising.”
Lane said the planning commission discussed the prospect at Thursday night’s meeting. He said he will contact Dollar General to let them know there were no hesitations from the city’s perspective.
Lane said he hopes Dollar General will proceed with the next steps. He said if they do, the city will welcome them.
