Overton BOE Meeting Next Week To Review Maintenance Projects

The Overton County Board of Education will review capital maintenance projects across the entire school-system next week.

Board members during a Tuesday work session decided to review the system’s needs on October 25th. Chair Mike Hayes said the purpose is to see what projects can be completed in-house.

‘What we will do at that meeting is we will go through the list school by school,” Hayes said. “We’ll determine what items for each school can be turned over to maintenance. What items will need to be turned over to an architect tfor them to go visit, look at and give us a dollar amount.”

School Board Member Ricky Dodson said he thinks the meeting will result in cost savings for the district rather than relying on contractors. Hayes said board members should keep in mind the possibility of hiring more maintenance staff to conduct the work. The district currently has four workers and one supervisor.

“We need to probably look at adding an additional head county to maintenance to get some of this stuff done,” Hayes said. “I think they need to help especially when you start turning over all this painting and little work.”

Board members will meet at 6:00 p.m. at Central Office. School Board Member Mitch Stonecipher requested that the maintenance supervisor be present.

“You’ll save money on contracting services, but you’ll also save money on not having to replace things when you can have those things maintained,” Stonecipher said.
