Fentress County Commission approved an interlocal agreement for a radio tower and other equipment with the City of Byrdstown.
Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the county’s emergency communication system had not had work done on it in many years, and has had some difficulties with the county’s topography.
“We have hills and we have hollers and this upgrade will make our radio contact with emergency personnel a lot better,” Johnson said. “To receive calls and talk to each other back and forth and such on emergency things with our ambulance, our rescue squad, our fire department and our Sheriff’s department and such.”
Johnson said while in the process of redoing the county’s radio system, Byrdstown agreed to give an old water tower for the county to attach its transmitter system. The tower sits in the Forbus area along Highway 127.
Johnson said the water tower helps the county avoid having to build an entirely new radio tower in the upgrade process.
