Pickett Commercial Building Partially Collapsed During Storm

Flooding in Byrdstown lead to a partial building collapse early Thursday morning.

Sheriff Dana Dowdy said damage still being assessed at the West Main Street commercial location.

“We had a lot of flooding,” Dowdy said. “We had some flooding in town around the post office parking lot,” Dowdy said. “Had some trees down and had one building damaged. We had one wall collapse during the storm.”

Dowdy said there have been no reports of injuries.

Dowdy said the county also had to partially close Highway 127. Officials are not allowing large trucks coming from Fentress County. Dowdy said T-DOT recommended the closure due to downed power lines.

“We’re keeping any big trucks coming off of 111 turning on to 127 going towards Fentress County around the Forbes area,” Dowdy said. “We got the electric company and phone company up there working.”

Dowdy said motorists are asked to avoid entering Pickett County through that route.
