Cookeville City Council will consider approving an almost $1.2 million waterline project.
Water Quality Control Director Ronnie Kelly said that they try to do one project like this a year to make necessary updates.
“They used galvanized pipes a long time ago and some cast-iron pipes and those things have a tendency to break,” Kelly said. “And they get old, their usable life’s done. So we try to replace them every year a little bit at a time.”
Kelly said that the project received one bid from Madewell Construction. He said it will consist of some 12,055 linear feet of repairs.
Kelly said that there are several locations around the original area of Cookeville that they plan on replacing including Womack Avenue, Loweland Road, Pleasant View Drive, Boyd Street, and 22nd Street among others.
“I sort of talk to my engineers when we’re doing the budget how much capital money can we push towards that project and just keep it moving, ” Kelly said. “So it kind of depends every year how much we’re able to do.”
Kelly expects the work could take about one year because it requires moving from location to location.
