Byrdstown will receive some $209,000 in American Rescue Plan funding.
Mayor Sam Gibson said the town has plenty of uses for the funds with the focus being water projects.
“Especially down in the Eagle Cove area, which is in need for bigger water lines,” Gibson said. “And, we got some work to do on our water plant, which our clear well we are going to try and do that project this fall.”
Gibson said the town expects to receive half of the funding this year with the other half coming about a year later. Gibson said the money has to be spent before 2024, or it will go back to the federal government.
“We don’t know if it’ll be May, June, July or whatever, but it should be coming down pretty soon. One of those payments,” Gibson said. “The town of Byrdstown will have no problem. We have a lot of things we can use that money for.”
Gibson said the funds could also pay for repairing a overflow pond that has a sinkhole needing work.
