Very heavy rainfall moving into the Upper Cumberland once again Saturday night prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning.
The National Weather Service issued a third flash flood warning just before midnight Sunday, including Fentress, Overton and Pickett counties. Very heavy rain will impact these areas with the next batch of rain moving in from the east.
A second flash flood warning was issued for Clay, Jackson and Smith Counties until 5am. The warning for Putnam, White, and Dekalb Counties extends til 4:15am Sunday. The warning also includes Northeastern Cannon County, southeastern Smith County, northwestern Van Buren County and northern Warren County. Flash flooding could be happening or be imminent in any of these areas.
The three warnings put virtually the entire Upper Cumberland under a flash flood warning through the overnight hours.
Fentress County dispatch reports several roads impassable. Emergency management reports flooding on Lost Creek Road in White County with two to three feet of water across the road. At least two water rescues have taken place in Cannon County along Marshall Creek Road.
Across Putnam County, normal streets inside the Cookeville city limits that deal with flooding are having problems Saturday night.
As much as three inches of rain fell earlier Saturday with the highest amounts in Clay and Pickett County. As much as two to three inches could fall over the next several hours as storms continue moving in from the west.
If you encounter flooded roads, turn around. Do not try to cross a flooded roadway.
