The Tennessee Supreme Court has denied the appeal of a Putnam County man sentenced to 24 years in prison for attempted first-degree murder.
James Alex Greer petitioned the Supreme Court to force the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney’s office to hand over fingerprint and mouth swab evidence in the case.
Upon consideration of the application for permission to appeal of James Alex Greer and the record before us, the application is denied,” the court said. “Further, the Motion to Compel the
Criminal Court to Provide Trial Transcripts and the Motion to Compel the Victim and the Victim’s Son to Submit Fingerprints and DNA are both denied.”
A Putnam County jury found Greer guilty in 2018 of wrapping a pistol in a freezer bag and placing it in the hand of his estranged wife. Greer allegedly told Diane Greer “this is what assisted suicide looks like.”
Greer was sentenced to 18 years on the attempted murder charge and six years for the possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
