White Co. Purchases COVID Gear Through CARES Act

White County municipal buildings and departments will receive more COVID gear purchased through the CARES Act.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the county received over $60,000 for COVID related items.

“It is literally a life saver,” Robinson said. “We could not afford that stuff as a small rural county. And to have that money coming down and to be able to buy stuff to protect, especially our EMS people. That is where a lot of it goes.”

Robinson said PPE gear and custodial items are the two most needed items. Robinson said the county also is excited to put two misters to use that disinfect the air.

“That was something I really was not expecting. Must of the stuff that we get is the preventive stuff like the PPE,” Robinson said. “When we start to get something to have more of an offensive attack on the COVID virus, that is pleasant.”

The local jail received $20,000. The local court got $10,000. The county budgeted $10,000 for law enforcement, $8,846 for the library and $23,000 for the election commission.

“We have to assume every person that they come in contact with, and the Sheriff’s Department, we have to assume every person they come in contact with is COVID positive,” Robinson said. “You got to treat every situation like that.”
