The Clay County School Board approved a first reading of changes to the high school handbook Thursday night.
Changes include allowing no open holes or ripped seams above the knees. Clay County Director of Schools Matt Eldridge said the system planned to make that policy uniform across the system once the board passes the change.
The system removed a line in the handbook that all students’ hair should be of natural color. Officials changed the jewelry section to allow stud-only body piercings.
The policy also changed a 15-minute period texting period for high school students. The new policy says students will “have time” to text and call during lunch, supervised by staff.
School Board members will consider a second reading of the changes at the June meeting.
