The City of Livingston approved an engineering contract for emergency repairs on the Miller Street/Lee Drive sewer project Monday night.
The gravity sewer along Miller Street collapsed recently forcing the city to undertake emergency repairs estimated at $50,000.
“It’s an emergency repair you just couldn’t avoid,” Consulting Engineer Greg Davenport said.
The Lee Drive sewer has suffered leakage because of high groundwater table.
Aldermen unanimously approved the contract with J.R. Wauford and Company. Davenport said he designed the repairs on both. The total price tag on both projects has been estimated at $390,000. The project has already been submitted to the state for approval, Davenport said.
The city will pay for the repairs from savings netted during the Hilham water project as well as renovations to the sewage pumping stations. Those savings totaled nearly $800,000.
Davenport said the remaining savings could be spent to investigate the increased water leakage issues the city has been dealing with. He said he will address that with the board at a future meeting.
