Jackson County BOE Response To COVID-19

The Jackson County Schools will feed students across the county through March 31.

“One of the main things that I think is really important, just like a lot of what the other school districts have done, is making the nutrition program for children under 18 years old,” Director of Schools Kristy Brown said. “They can come and get meals for free prepared for them and handed out to them during this time. It’s definitely a priority and we are proud to do that.”

Spring break had been scheduled to end Monday. Schools will remain closed, Brown said, until at least March 31. Brown said faculty and staff have spent much of the last week focused on what comes next.

“They’re at home and working on things on home I’m sure already, and some of them are coming in to work on our food packs that are going home,” Brown said. “So we want to keep that in mind and make sure that we’re following guidelines to keep our staff and our faculty healthy and safe and not exposing them to anything unnecessary as well.”

Brown said the school system has worked hard to follow all the guidelines from state and federal agencies.

Meals can be picked up between 9am and 11:30am weekdays until March 31 at school locations.
