222 Cumberland County homes will soon have access to high-speed broadband services.
Ben Lomand received a $2.24 million Broadband ReConnect grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Thursday.
The county will use the grant to construct new state-of-the-art fiber to 100 square miles of northeast Cumberland County.
County Mayor Allen Foster said the project allows Ben Lomand to provide services to other customers after fulfilling the grant requirements.
The application process for the grant began in May 2019 with local support meetings at two schools. The county submitted support letters from those meetings, along with 1,500 responses to an online broadband survey conducted by Foster.
A press release said a total of 561 people will benefit from the project.
