Council Closes Part Of West 14th For New Town Houses

Cookeville City Council voted on first reading Thursday to close a portion of West 14th Street.

Planning Director John Ward said a developer wants to use the property for new housing.

“We have a townhouse development proposed for that property and all of the property located North of the T-Mart,” Ward said. “He’s asked for this closure to incorporate it into what he’s doing with the townhouses.”

The developer will pay the city about $4,000 for the closure request. The city charged $3.08 per square foot for the closure.

“He (Developer) agreed to continue the process once I let him know what the value was,” Ward said.

Second reading approval will take place during next month’s city council meeting. The Cookeville Planning Commission will consider specific plans for the development during this month’s meeting.
